In preparation for Monday’s Inaugural council meeting

Well, the agenda came out for the upcoming inaugural meeting of the new town council. Monday night, the new town council will be officially sworn in at the McGregor Columbian Club. I attended the inaugural meeting of the past council in 2018, when it was held at the Libro. It is a formal event and not like a typical meeting.

According to the agenda, the Legion will march in the colours. Then, the official swearing in ceremony will happen in the following order :

The Chief Administrative Officer, as Clerk, will introduce and administer the Oaths of Office for the following:

• Deputy Mayor Chris Gibb

• Councillor Molly Allaire

• Councillor Peter Courtney

• Councillor Linden Crain

• Councillor Donald McArthur

• Councillor Diane Pouget

And then, the Chief Administrative Officer, as Clerk, will introduce and administer the Oath of Office for the Mayor of the Town of Amherstburg.

• Mayor Michael Prue

INAUGURAL ADDRESS

At this point of the evening, the new Mayor, Michael Prue, will deliver the Inaugural Address.

To conclude the meeting, the Legion will retrieve the colours and then the meeting will be adjourned.

I remember attending this same inaugural meeting four years ago and how much hope I held for the last council. I just went and found my blog from that night in December 2018. If you’re interested in a short walk down memory lane, here’s the link : https://amherstburg2.wordpress.com/2018/12/04/inaugural-ceremony-for-amherstburgs-new-town-council-monday-december-3rd-2018/

Once again, I am holding out hope that this new council will be productive and progressive, but only time will tell I think. I’ve enjoyed my month off from “council watching” and blogging, during this transition, but I am ready to get back at it! Do I foresee marathon meetings in my near future? Unfortunately, I do……but I hope that I’m wrong and that I will see focused, efficient and productive meetings. A girl can dream, right?

Council’s first meeting is scheduled for December 5th, so I’ll be back with a pre-meeting blog for that meeting once the agenda is posted. And then, on December 5th, I’ll be back in town hall, with my notebook, my seat cushion and several pens. LOL

See you then!
